What is Swayam?

Swayam (Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is an Initiative by the Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. Swayam targets to give high-quality education for everyone. The initiative makes online learning easy and effective through an indigenous developed IT platform that facilitates hosting of all the courses.

The Swayam e-learning platform is designed and developed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with the help of Microsoft. And it is currently India’s biggest free online learning system with around 1600 courses in various subjects.

How to access Swayam?

Swayam can be accessed using any device that is having internet connectivity.

The Web Version of Swayam may be accessed at https://swayam.gov.in using a web browser , For using Swayam in mobile, you may download the mobile apps from Playstore at Swayam Android App download or from AppStore at Swayam iOS App download.

Though the apps do not support learning from it ,It allows you to download and view the syllabuses and Various PDF files related to the courses.

How to register in Swayam?

The registration in Swayam learning portal is pretty obvious and easy. Just go to and click “Register as Student” to register yourself by providing your name and email id. or you can use your Facebook or Google plus account for easy registration.

What is offered in Swayam?

Swayam offers various courses that are taught in classrooms from 9th class to Post graduation. The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in 4 quadrants –

(1) video lecture,

(2) specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed

(3) self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes

(4) an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts

Swayam offers different course programs in subjects including Engineering, Science, Humanities, Management, Language, Mathematics, Arts, Recreation, Commerce, General, Library, and Education. Etc. All the courses offered in Swayam is absolutely free, though it may require a small fee if you want a certificate on successful completion of the course. There will be an assessment at the end of every course, and the marks/grades will be added to the academic record of the student.

Who offer courses in Swayam?

In order to ensure the quality of education, Government of India has partnered with many of the top institutions in India. A list of universities/Institutions that offers courses in Swayam can be listed at https://swayam.gov.in/Universities. In addition to that Swayam has nine national co-coordinators. They are AICTE for self-paced and international courses, NPTEL for engineering, UGC for non-technical post-graduation education, CEC for undergraduate education, NCERT & NIOS for school education, IGNOU for out of the school students, IIMB for management studies and NITTTR for Teacher Training programme.
